Marion County Spring Beef Show

BEEF TAGGING will take place before the Spring Beef Show (8:00-9:00 AM).  All market steers & commercial heifers will need to be tagged.  For the steers,

this date will serve as the beginning weight for our county rate of gain.  Livestock tags are $3.50 each.




ADDING/DROPPING PROJECTS – All of your 4-H records will transfer from 4-H Online to Fair Entry with the push of a button. It is very important to have accurate information in 4-H Online. Please double check the projects you are enrolled in by May 1.  If you are not enrolled in the project you will NOT be able to enter that project at the fair. The community leaders and the Extension Office will not be able to make these changes.  If you have not yet enrolled for this year, you must enroll in 4-H Online to be official.

HORSE ID PAPERS– ALL horse papers are due in the Extension Office to be signed by May 1.  If you have a new horse, a new ID with picture is required. If you are using the same horse you did last year either bring in your papers or mail them and the ID will be signed and returned.  For more information, visit https://www.kansas4-h.org/tipsheet/announcement.php?id=50347.

MARKET BEEF (market steer and market heifer) NOMINATIONS must be postmarked by May 1 Late nominations will not be accepted.  Make sure you are using the 2019 forms and don’t leave any fields blank.  Families are also highly encouraged to send their nominations via certified mail to make sure they get postmarked appropriatelyAny market beef project that a child plans to show in the Kansas State Fair Grand Drive and/or KJLS must be nominated to be eligible to enter and exhibit.  Please click here for more details.  DNA envelopes can be found at the Extension Office.

SHEEP/SWINE/GOAT TAGGING - MAY 1 at 6:00 PM at the Marion County Fairgrounds.  Let us know if your animals need tagged before this date. Livestock tags are $3.50 each.

YQCA Certification

Youth planning to exhibit in the 2019 Kansas State Fair Grand Drive and/or the Kansas Junior Livestock Show (KJLS) need to be aware of the Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) requirement. Both state shows will require ALL exhibitors to be YQCA certified.   Youth who should be applying for these scholarships should be in their Senior year in High School OR OLDER (they have many scholarships that are available to youth who are Freshman-Senior in Post-Secondary Education and some that are available to Vet Med Students).
